Why I Ride
Growing up in Pakistan, my bike was freedom. I explored nearby towns with friends and once rode 400 km solo. This began my love for adventure cycling. As an adult I moved to Germany and started a career, but I had a dream. In 2015, I followed my dream and bicycled from Germany to Pakistan. This journey inspired me to start a new life, using cycling and photography to tell meaningful stories. I then pedaled 33,000 km from Argentina to Alaska. I want to inspire Pakistanis and shine a positive light on our country.

WHETHER IT WAS THE JUNGLE OF CENTRAL AMERICA, THE KARAKORAM MOUNTAINS OF PAKISTAN, OR TEMPERATURES OF -20°C, THE BELT DRIVE ALWAYS PREVAILED.
WHY Gates Carbon Drive?
The duo of an internal gearbox and Gates Carbon Drive allowed me to enjoy the ride and focus on the people, places, nature and weather rather than wasting time on bike maintenance. Riding in snowy, muddy, and dusty conditions made no difference: the belt powered through. The carbon belt requires no lubrication or cleaning, and it lasts an incredibly long time. The CenterTrack and belt profile shed mud and dirt in a self-cleaning fashion. All of this meant I had more time to take photographs, write, talk to people, and immerse myself in the adventure. Plus, no greasy hands!

THERE’S NO GOING BACK
Once you’ve tried Gates Carbon Drive you realize how clumsy, inefficient and old-fashioned chains, derailleurs and cassettes really are. Riding with a belt on diminishes the necessity for maintenance to almost none – you won’t need to deal with oil, grit or grease ever again, as a simple rinse will clear any hiccups. What a good grape is to a glass of wine, a belt is to a bicycle. And who likes rust in their wine, anyway?
WORRY OUT THE DOOR
I often ride rocky and steep trails and I’ve struggled for years to find the right gear ratio for my leg strength; often ending up having derailleur issues. Since I switched to a Gates Carbon Drive belt drivetrain, all these worries have disappeared. Not only can I conquer many climbs I previously would’ve had to walk, now I won’t have bent derailleurs or undone chains again. For me, making the switch has meant a better dialogue between my bike and my body.
